In case you haven’t already seen enough of the Johnny Depp and Amber Heard trial, it’s been confirmed that the defamation case is now being turned into a movie. According to reports, streaming giant Tubi is developing a film based on the trial that captivated fans over the summer between the former couple, who were involved in a nasty court battle stemming from Heard’s 2018 Washington Post op-ed piece, where Depp’s lawyers claimed Heard insinuated she was a victim of domestic abuse by the hands of their client.
The film has already been given a title, “Hot Take: The Depp/Heard Trial,” which will see former “Days of Our Lives” star Mark Hapka play Depp while “American Horror Story” actress Megan Davis has been cast to portray Heard, with a premiere date set for September 30.
Amber Heard admitted on tape that she physically abused Johnny Depp; she complained because she wasn’t in his will; she used his children; she took pictures of his worst moments; she recorded him without his consent and sent it to TMZ.

Further details pertaining to the upcoming flick reveal that Guy Nicolucci, a writer for “Late Night With Conan O’Brien” will be in charge of developing the screenplay, with Sarah Lohman jumping on board as the flick’s director. Adam Lewinson, who is the chief content officer at Tubi, said in a statement, “With our partners at MarVista, this Tubi Original was fast-tracked into production to capture a timely take on a story that became part of the cultural zeitgeist, painting a unique picture of what millions watched play out in the headlines over the summer.”
Other notable names expected to appear in the film include Melissa Marty, who will appear as Depp’s attorney Camilla Vasquez, and Marry Carrig takes on the role of Heard’s lawyer Elaine Bredehoft, who was reportedly fired shortly after her client had lost her case against the “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie star.
Following an intense six-week trial, a Virginia jury ruled in Depp’s favor and awarded him $8 million in damages while Heard was awarded with $2 million of the $100 million she sought in her countersuit. As fans are already aware, the Texas native has since appealed the ruling and has hired a string of new lawyers to help her fight the case.
Depp, who was ousted from his role in the ever-so-popular “Fantastic Beasts” box office franchise amid Heard’s domestic abuse claims, could potentially make a return to the Warner Bros-backed film series, according to fellow co-star Mads Mikkelsen.
Though Depp’s relationship with the studio had turned sour after he was forced to forfeit his part as Grindelwald, Mikkelsen, who became the actor’s replacement, seem to believe that with his triumphant win in court, it would seem likely that the father of two could possibly make a return.

“It was very intimidating. Obviously, well, now the course has changed—he won the suit, the court [case]—so let’s see if he comes back,” he reportedly said at the Sarajevo Film Festival in August, per Deadline. “He might.”
“I’m a big fan of Johnny. I think he’s an amazing actor, I think he did a fantastic job. Having said that, I could not copy it. There’s there was no way I could just copy it, because it’s so much him. It would be creative suicide
