While speaking the Psychedelic Science conference in Denver a few days ago, Jaden Smith revealed that his mom, Jada Pinkett Smith, 51, was the one to get him and his family into psychedelics.
“I think it was my mom, actually, that was really the first one to make that step for the family,” he said. “It was just her for a really, really long time and then eventually it just trickled and evolved and everybody found it in their own ways.” While going into more detail, Jaden explained that with the use of psychedelics it has helped his relationship with his brother and sister, Trey, 30, and Willow, 22. According to him it made him more empathetic towards them. “Siblings can argue so much and fight so much, and lord knows me and my siblings have done so much of that in the past,” he said. “But the level of love and empathy that I can feel for them inside of the (psychedelic) experiences and outside of the experiences has been something that’s profound and beautiful.”
“It will actually help us to open up our minds to get out of the old ways of thinking that got us into lots of these arguments and open it up so that it just releases and makes room for you to work it out and massage it out until it’s completely gone,” he said.
The actor/rapper says using psychedelics also helps with his creativity. “You have a car on the top of a hill and if you just push it a little bit and then you run in front of and you stop it, you’ll be able to stop it,” he explained. “But if you push it from the top of the hill and you try to stop it when it’s at the bottom of the hill, you won’t be able to stop it.”
While speaking to the audience he did let fans know that when using psychedelics people should be in a “safe space” saying that your environment and who are around at the time matters.
“Whether it was me that was having a difficult time, whether there was someone else that was having a difficult time, you always want to have that support group of people around you,” Smith advised. “The set, the setting is so important…it’s the physical set, the setting, but it’s also the mental, the mindset.
“A reassuring team is indispensable during these experiences, particularly during challenging or novel ones.”
