Houston Mother Charged After Accidentally Shooting Son While Trying To Shoot Dog
Angelia Mia Vargas, a 24-year-old North Houston mother, has been arrested and charged with deadly conduct with a firearm after accidentally shooting her 5-year-old son in the abdomen while trying to shoot a dog.
Per Houston police, Vargas, her son and another unnamed family member were riding bikes on Saturday afternoon (May 29) when they were confronted by a 6-month-old boxer puppy. It’s reported that the pup, named Bruno, ran out of his owner’s home towards the Vargases and continuously barked at them.

The confrontation prompted Vargas to fire off at least three shots towards the animal. While one of the bullets grazed Bruno, another one of the shots fired off struck Vargas’ son — who was sent to the hospital and expected to survive. The entire ordeal was caught on a Ring camera, showing the dog roaming into the street followed by multiple gunshots and Vargas screaming. In addition to Vargas being charged, Bruno’s owner was issued a Class C misdemeanor citation for having a loose dog.
