During the interview, Ebro asked the R&B singer about the origins of her full name. Peter Rosenberg tells Ebro: “Well her name is Tinashe” and Ebro asks, “What’s her last name?” Tinashe says in response, “Kachingwe” to which Ebro says, “Can we just point out how she’s light skin with a ghetto name?” Rosenberg corrects him and says her name isn’t ghetto and it’s an African name. Additionally, Tinashe tells the morning show hosts that her name is Zimbabwean, meaning “We have God.”

Fans of the singer and other social media users reacted to the clip and criticized Ebro for being ignorant regarding the origins of her name. Ebro issued an apology on Twitter and tweeted: “Yea this was a terrible joke, we were using the name skit for people to learn her origins… love Tinashe thats my homey still”
