#Socialites, get into this! A Harvard Medical School morgue manager was arrested along with his wife after being accused of selling stolen body parts! They are among five other people who have been charged with stealing and selling human remains.

Disturbing details were revealed by federal prosecutors who claim manager Cedric Lodge, allegedly stole “heads, brains, skin and bones” from cadavers that were donated to the school. It was said that his wife Denise also sold the body parts to buyers in Pennsylvania and Massachusetts by mail, according to the indictment. In one case, the buyer allegedly intended to tan skin into leather. However, the two alleged buyers who went down with them were identified as 44-year-old Katrina MacLean of Salem and 46-year-old Joshua Taylor of West Lawn, Pennsylvania. They were also charged in the indictment released Wednesday. Prosecutors say she, Taylor, and the Lodges took human remains from the morgue and brought them all the way over to New Hampshire and Pennsylvania, where Taylor lives.

52-year-old Mathew Lampi of East Bethel, Minnesota, and 41-year-old Jeremy Pauley of Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania were also charged in the investigation. A seventh person identified as Candace Chapman Scott, of Little Rock, Arkansas, was indicted earlier. According to CBS News, she’s accused of stealing and selling body parts from a mortuary and crematorium. The disgusting and horrible scheme is alleged to have ran for five years from 2018 to 2022.

Cedric Lodge, who was fired on 6 May according to a letter from the university. University officials explained that Lodge’s behavior was “an abhorrent betrayal.” It was noted that the other people indicted are not affiliated with Harvard.

Harvard Medical School deans George Daley and Edward Hundert wrote in a letter to the community, “The reported incidents are a betrayal of HMS and, most importantly, each of the individuals who altruistically chose to will their bodies to HMS through the Anatomical Gift Program to advance medical education and research. We are so very sorry for the pain this news will cause for our anatomical donors’ families and loved ones, and HMS pledges to engage with them during this deeply distressing time.”

US attorney for the Middle District of Pennsylvania Gerard M. Karam also said in a statement.

“Some crimes defy understanding. The theft and trafficking of human remains strikes at the very essence of what makes us human. It is particularly egregious that so many of the victims here volunteered to allow their remains to be used to educate medical professionals and advance the interests of science and healing. For them and their families to be taken advantage of in the name of profit is appalling. With these charges, we are seeking to secure some measure of justice for all these victims.”
