Just hours after Brooklyn Beckham broke the internet with a six-page Instagram statement airing out years of family conflict, his father David Beckham is now speaking out to deliver a message: sometimes, you’ve got to let your kids make mistakes…
As previously reported, Brooklyn, 26, the oldest son of David and Victoria Beckham, made it clear he’s done playing nice and keeping it cute to save face. In his post Monday night, he said he has no interest in reconciling with his family and claimed he’s finally “standing up” for himself “for the first time” in his life.
By the next morning, David Beckham was in Davos, Switzerland, speaking at the World Economic Forum and while he didn’t mention his son by name, his words definitely caught everyone’s attention.
During a Jan. 20 appearance on CNBC’s Squawk Box, the soccer icon reflected on the influence of social media and how easily things can go left.
“I have always spoken about social media and the power of social media. For the good and for the bad,” Beckham said. “The bad we’ve talked about with what kids can access these days, it can be dangerous.”
He went on to frame social platforms as a double-edged sword, especially for young people navigating public life.
“What I have found personally, especially with my kids as well, use it for the right reasons,” he continued. “I’ve been able to use my platform and my following for UNICEF. And it has been the biggest tool to make people aware of what’s going on around the world for children.”
The comments landed just hours after Brooklyn accused his parents of controlling the public narrative around their family for years. As previously reported, the former photographer didn’t hold back.
“For my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family,” he wrote. “The performative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into.”
Brooklyn, who married model and heiress Nicola Peltz, 31, in April 2022, also alleged that the tension escalated around his wedding — and never stopped.
“My parents have been trying endlessly to ruin my relationship since before my wedding, and it hasn’t stopped,” he said.
He accused his mother, Victoria Beckham, of backing out of making Nicola’s wedding dress and claimed she crossed a line during the reception dance.
“She danced very inappropriately on me in front of everybody. I’ve never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life,” he said.
So far, Victoria have also not directly addressed Brooklyn’s statement head-on.
