Minutes after his wedding, Marco Antonio Rosales Contreras,32, was shot at the Nuestra Senora de La Candelaria church in Carboca, Mexico. Authorities said the shooting occurred around 5 p.m. Contreras was shot multiple times. While being transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, he died from his injuries.

Investigators said the gunman could’ve mistakenly identified Contreras since his intended target was getting married around the same time in a different city.

“Investigations indicate that the attack against Marco Antonio was directed towards another individual who was also getting married at the same time in a different nearby city,”

Contreras’ sister, Michelle Adriana Rosales Contreras,32, was also injured in the shooting. The bride was unharmed in the shooting, but various videos on social media show her in distress, and her dress was covered in blood. Before his death, Contreras worked as a computer systems engineer and lived in the state of Jalisco.

Investigators said the case is ongoing, and no arrests have been made.
