Students at Northeastern University are calling for action months after the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.
The group of students from the college says, currently, they cannot get Plan B without making an appointment at the health center or heading off campus. “By not offering emergency contraception to students or making it easily accessible it’s still saying that this is something that is stigmatized, and that sex is stigmatized,” said NU SHARE member Ren Birnholz. “Or another option is to go to a drug store and pay $50, which can be really difficult for a lot of our students who might be food insecure or low income,” Maya Bravo with the group added.
Some colleges have already taken the steps months ago including Boston University. They installed a Plan B vending machine back in March. Just last week, Massachusetts followed suit and passed a new abortion rights bill increasing access to abortion and allowing for emergency contraception to be made available in vending machines.

So will Northeastern University follow behind and make this happen?
A spokesperson for Northeastern University says the school is making an existing vending machine available to dispense emergency contraception. This will be happening in the fall, and students seem to support the move.
What Is President Biden Doing Following Roe v Wade Being Overturned?
On Wednesday, he signed an executive order to help ensure access to abortion in light of the Supreme Court’s decision earlier this summer to eliminate the constitutional right to the procedure. The order, according to administration officials, paves the way for Medicaid to cover abortion-related costs for people who have traveled from states where their abortion is banned to states where it is not banned.
