#FreeJussie: Jurnee Smollett Breaks Silence On Brother Jussie Smollett’s Sentencing

Earlier, we shared that Jocqui Smollett spoke out on his brother Jussie Smollett’s transfer to a psych ward in Cook County Jail. Additionally, their sister, actress Jurnee Smollett, has also broken her silence to speak on Jussie’s sentencing. Jurnee, who’s been standing by her brother throughout the entire ordeal, is calling for his freedom.

As we’ve previously shared, Jussie has been sentenced to jail for 150 days, along with 30 months or probation for allegedly orchestrating and reporting a fake hate crime. Jussie’s been extremely vocal in court and via his Instagram — which is ran by his family — on his innocence and state of mental health. After his sentencing hearing, he told reporters and the presiding judge that he is innocent and not suicidal. He said, “If anything happens to me when I go in there, I did not do it to myself, and you must all know that.”

With the support of his fans and even ‘Empire’ co-star Taraji P. Henson, Jussie’s sister is now breaking her silence and publicly speaking on his recent sentencing. Taking to Instagram, he uploaded a black photo with the white words #FREEJUSSIE. She captioned the post, “Black Americans are incarcerated in state prisons at nearly five times the rate of White Americans. Jussie is innocent. And…you don’t have to believe in his innocence to believe he should be free. #FreeJussie #StopLockingUpOurPeople.”
