Four Parisian Policemen Indicted After Assaulting Black Music Producer

Four Parisian policemen have been indicted after assaulting a 41-year-old Black music producer in an unprovoked attack at his studio in Paris, France earlier this month.

After the incident on November 21 — which was caught on CCTV video showing three white officers kicking and punching producer Michel Zecler for several minutes and a fourth throwing tear gas into the building afterwards — a French judge placed the suspects under criminal investigation, with all four facing charges of “intentional violence by a person holding authority.” Currently, two of the four suspects are in custody.

Zecler, who ended up needing stitches, says the attack was “intentional” and racially charged. Additionally, the criminal charges and investigation were mainly sought after as there is a growing concern over police violence in France; including several protests throughout the country. In addition, the surveillance footage, which went viral online, further spawned actions of criminal justice.
