John Harrington, commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, made the announcement that Chauvin was taken into custody by the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, who said that he was arrested in Minneapolis.
“We have now been able to put together the evidence that we need. Even as late as yesterday afternoon, we did not have all that we needed,” Freeman said, before saying that he was unable to speak on specific pieces of evidence he needed to file charges.
As we previously reported, Chauvin is the former officer in the video seen around the world with his knee on Floyd’s neck for at least eight minutes. After hearing Floyd beg and yell that he couldn’t breathe, Chauvin ignored his pleas and let Floyd suffer and die.

Chauvin had been with Minneapolis police for 19 years. As of right now, it is not clear what he will be charged with.
