A Polk County man who was released from jail killed his girlfriend and her lover after he caught them having sex in his home.

According to the New York Post, Kenyatta Bellamy,50, was released from Osceola County jail last Tuesday after serving a year for failing to appear in court for a DUI manslaughter charge. After his release, Bellamy discovered that his girlfriend moved her lover into their home in Davenport while he spent time in jail. He tried to visit Miami to stay with his mother but due to the regulations surrounding the COVID-19 outbreak, Bellamy was unable to take a bus.

Three days after the release, Bellamy walked into his home to discover the victim and her lover having sex. Authorities said he confessed to losing his cool and used a hammer and a knife to kill the pair. Sheriff Grady Judd said in a statement that Bellamy should have remained in jail and an internal investigation is pending:

“If this suspect had remained in jail where he belonged, these two victims would still be alive. We are still piecing together why, after spending almost a year in jail, he was allowed to bond out. This is an awful tragedy that should never have happened.”
