Federal Officer Shot & Killed In Oakland During George Floyd Protest Identified

Yesterday we reported that a federal officer was shot and killed in Oakland, CA on Friday night (May 29) during a George Floyd protest. That protective service officer has now been identified as 53-year-old Patrick Underwood.

Underwood was one of two Homeland Security officers shot during the peaceful-turned-violent protest. The other officer, who has not yet been identified, left the scene in critical condition. The incident occurred when a vehicle pulled up outside the Ronald V. Dellums Federal Building around 9:45 p.m. and a person opened fire at the two protective officers.

Authorities report that a suspect in the incident has not yet been named, and that the attack is still under investigation. On Saturday, Department of Homeland Security Acting Deputy Secretary Ken Cuccinelli stated, “When someone targets a police officer or a police station with an intention to do harm and intimidate — that is an act of domestic terrorism.”

Cuccinelli continued, There are currently threats by some to attack police stations and federal buildings. That violence not only won’t be tolerated, we are also committed to ensuring that it won’t succeed anywhere.”

Additionally, Underwood’s sister, Lancaster City Councilwoman Angela Underwood, took to Facebook to confirm her brother’s death.
