Folks online haven’t really been feeling Eboni K. Williams after she honestly said she would not date a bus driver.
As we previously reported, she made those comments during an interview with Iyanla Vanzant. While discussing the dating pool for Black women, Vanzant asked Williams, “Would you date a bus driver?” The 39-year-old lawyer said, “If he owns the bus…if he owns it. If he owns the bus, Iyanla.”
The famed inspirational speaker hit back and said, “No, see, that’s wrong. That’s a problem. Because the standards and criteria that we use to measure men is off for who we are as women and who they are in the society. I would date a bus driver,” Vanzant said. “If he loved driving the bus, if he was a man of integrity, if he was good to his mama if he treated me well. I would date a bus driver.”
While there were a bunch of people to agree with Williams with many people noting that was just her preference, the former reality star still faced tons of backlash. Now, Williams doubled down on her stance in a follow-up and she was not putting down bus drivers, but instead, she’s “actually speaking and pouring into the ascension of Black men.”
“I am actually speaking and pouring into the ascension of Black men when I said what I said. But no, some of y’all were too busy naming and shaming me personally, and Black women in general, as undesirable golddiggers.” Further proving her point, Williams noted that her mother was once a bus driver.

“There’s absolutely nothing wrong with driving a bus. My mother, Gloria, drove one for years. But could it be that Black America has been sold a narrative of average, regular, and typical being good enough for us?”
She wrapped her message by saying, “Average is not and will never be good enough for me. And the gag is, I don’t think it’s good enough for you, either.”

Despite that, some people are still not feeling her including DJ Envy. Eboni K. Williams appeared on the Breakfast Club to address her controversial comment but got into a slightly heated debate with the radio host. Take a look below:

Now Williams is not the first celebrity to come under fire for comments like this. As we previously reported, comedian B. Simone was heavily criticized back in 2020 after she said that she would date a guy who works a 9-5 job. She said at the time,
“He can’t be like clocking in and clocking out. No. I think entrepreneurs should date entrepreneurs… you’re not going to understand my lifestyle. You’re not going to understand why I’m up at 3 a.m. He has to be an entrepreneur…or moving into that direction,” Simone said.
