Trump claims Graham’s death “is a big blow” to moving the legislation forward. The act is a Republican election bill that Graham had co-sponsored. It would require voter identification in federal elections and proof of citizenship to register to vote.

As we previously shared, the Republican South Carolina Senator died on Saturday (July 11) at 71. Graham’s office said he was battling a “brief and sudden illness.” However, “minutes before his death,” Trump claims Graham called him to talk about the “SAVE America Act.”

On Sunday (July 12), Trump shared two posts on Truth Social, revealing his initial statements on Graham’s death. He later called into NBC News’ ‘Meet The Press’ and told host Kristen Welker all about his last call with Graham. He said after the senator returned to Washing from Ukraine, he phoned the president and said, “We’re all set for the SAVE America Act.” Trump added:

“He was pushing the SAVE America Act like crazy. He got back, said he just landed from Ukraine. I said, ‘That’s a long trip to make.’ He said he sounded a little tired, but perfect, but a little bit tired.”

Later in the conversation with Welker, Trump said, “This is a big blow to the SAVE America Act, let me tell you.” Welker asked Trump if Graham ever disclosed he was battling anything during the call. The president said:

“He told me, Kristen, he said, ‘You know, I feel good, but I’m tired.’ He was fine. I knew him. I knew him well. He would, he would let you know if he wasn’t feeling well.”

During the conversation, Trump also revealed he already has a replacement in mind for Graham. However, he shot down Welker’s question inquiring about their identity.
