The director of the Wuhan lab where the coronavirus apparently originated denies that the virus accidentally spread from the site.
According to the New York Post, Yuan Zhiming, director of the Wuhan Institute of Virology, spoke with CTGN Saturday denying the virus’ origins in the lab. Yuan claimed the virus did not come from the institute almost a week after news reports said the virus originated at one of the labs in Wuhan.

However, Yuan says the lab is currently studying different components related to the novel coronavirus but none of his staff have been infected:
“As people who carry out viral studies, we clearly know what kind of research is going on at the institute and how the institute manages viruses and samples,”

The lab has had its share of concerns in relation to its safety measures. Back in 2018, science diplomats from the US said in a report that the lab was experimenting on bats who were infected with the coronavirus and stated it lead to a SARS-like pandemic due to the lack of diplomatic cables.
