Diddy Claims Sean John Stole His Image & Sues For $25 Million
Sean “Diddy” Combs sues the fashion brand he once created, Sean John, for $25 million after claiming in a February 4-filed lawsuit that its new owners stole his image, likeness and persona without his consent for its new line, Sean John x Missguided.
While reportedly entering his second legal battle with Sean John and it’s owner GBG USA (Global Brands Group), Diddy alleges the company created a new collaborative line with women’s clothing retailer Missguided and together, they illegally used his image, likeness and persona without authorization — even fabricating quotes from him, allegedly. As you know, Diddy launched the company in 1998 and later sold it GBG in 2016. However, Diddy claims after selling the company he never endorsed future lines, including this one, which he never gave Sean John, Missguided nor GBG permission to use his name for marketing.

Diddy’s lawyer, Jonathan D. Davis responds, “[Diddy] does not challenge [Sean John/GBG’s] right to use the Sean John trademark, but rather [Sean John/GBG’s] decision to leverage a fabricated quote they created and then falsely attributed to Mr. Combs, and to use Mr. Combs’s name and other monikers to create the false and misleading impression that Mr. Combs is the decision-maker behind the designs and creation of the GBG Collection. [Sean John, GBG and Missguided] are using the Unapproved Material, which contains false or misleading representations of fact, to promote and sell the items in the GBG Collection because they understand that associating it with Mr. Combs will significantly increase sales and profits.”
