Former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder was taken into custody early Tuesday morning in Los Angeles on a charge of possession of a concealed weapon, according to TMZ.
The arrest reportedly came about after a routine traffic stop in which Wilder was pulled over in Hollywood late at night. Authorities say they noticed his Rolls-Royce had “illegally tinted windows and an obstructed license plate.”

The officers claimed to smell a marijuana odor from the car during the stop and proceeded to search the vehicle, leading to them allegedly finding marijuana and a gun. Wilder was reportedly cooperative but was taken into custody. Wilder was released on bond at 6:34 a.m. A few hours after being released from jail the boxer sent out a tweet addressing the news, “I’d rather be safe than sorry. The end.”
Wilder’s tweet quickly went viral with 1 million views. While looking at his tweet you can notice Andrew Tate who was recently released from a Romanian jail after spending three months imprisoned for sex trafficking allegations responding to Wilder saying, “Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6 my G.”

Wilder is mostly known for the big fights he has been apart of. As we previously reported, Wilder faced a number of notable opponents, including Tyson Fury, Luis Ortiz, Bermane Stiverne, and Chris Arreola. He successfully defended his title against these fighters and many others, often by way of knockout.

However, in February 2020, Wilder suffered his first professional loss in a highly anticipated rematch against Tyson Fury. Wilder lost by technical knockout in the seventh round, and Fury claimed the WBC heavyweight title.
Despite the loss, Wilder’s career has been impressive, and he is widely regarded as one of the most devastating punchers in the history of the heavyweight division. It is unclear when Wilder will participate in another fight. He currently holds a record of 43-2-1.
