Demi Lovato Says It’s Ok If You Misgender The Singer: “I Accidentally Misgender Myself Sometimes” Too

As we previously reported, back in May, Demi Lovato came out as non-binary and to decided to change their pronouns to they/them. At the time of the announcement, Demi explained, “I want to take this moment to share something very personal with you,” Lovato began a minute-and-a-half-long video. “The past year and a half, I’ve been doing some healing and self-reflective work. And through this work, I’ve had this revelation that I identify as non-binary. With that said, I’ll officially be changing my pronouns to they/them.”

Demi added, “I feel this best represents the fluidity I feel in my gender expression and allows me to feel most authentic and true to the person I both know I am and am still discovering.”  While most people seem to be adjusting to Demi’s changes well, there are some people who are still trying to get used to them. However, Demi doesn’t want anyone to worry if they accidentally misgender the star.

In a post shared Tuesday, Demi said to her fans, “If you misgender – That’s okay. I accidentally misgender myself sometimes! It’s a huge transition to change the pronouns I’ve used for myself my entire life. And it’s difficult to remember sometimes!” The star added,

They continue, “As long as you keep trying to respect my truth, And as long as I remember my truth, The Shift will come naturally.” Demi ended on this note … “I’m just grateful for your effort in trying to remember what means so much to my healing process.”
