Demi made the big announcement in a video that was shared on social media. The 28-year-old explained, “I want to take this moment to share something very personal with you,” Lovato began a minute-and-a-half-long video. “The past year and a half, I’ve been doing some healing and self-reflective work. And through this work, I’ve had this revelation that I identify as non-binary. With that said, I’ll officially be changing my pronouns to they/them.”

Demi added, “I feel this best represents the fluidity I feel in my gender expression and allows me to feel most authentic and true to the person I both know I am and am still discovering.”

Lovato has also described themself as “queer,” in the past. The entertainer said in 2020 that they were “still figuring it out” and had told their parents in 2017 “that I saw myself ending up possibly with a woman”. Demi also said: “I think love is love. You can find it in any gender.”

The “very personal” news came as part of new podcast, “4D with Demi Lovato,” where Demi discussed the importance and what this change means to them and what it may look like for other people. New episodes of the podcast — which appears on Apple Podcasts, Audacy, Spotify and everywhere podcasts are available to stream, will drop on Wednesdays.
