Following actor Da’Vinchi‘s controversial comments about Black Americans, a former friend of his boldly “told the truth” about the ‘BMF’ actor’s alleged “anti-Black” past. Backlash continues to mount over the Haitian-American’s October 2 ‘Funky Friday’ interview with Cam Newton. Now, actor and artist Brandon Brown is speaking out.
On Saturday (October 3), Brown took to his TikTok to expose his former friend, Da’Vinchi, born Abraham D. Juste. Brown opened the nearly 7-minute exposé with a screenshot of Da’Vinchi’s contact in his phone, plus a photo of them together after meeting in Los Angeles, CA back in 2017.
He said they connected over their shared passions of basketball and acting. Brown claimed he would repeatedly help Da’Vinchi with his “lackluster and minimal effort” auditions, interviews, etc. Brown also said Da’Vinchi was a promoter in LA for many years. However, what “gave him the ick” was noticing Da’Vinchi’s alleged “anti-Black” behavior.
Da’Vinchi Accused Of Being ‘Anti-Black’
Brown alleged, “He used to be like, ‘Oh, why can’t I have a non-Black girlfriend?” or say, “I don’t want to do this and these Black roles.” Brown allegedly, “He was just always against anything Black. And I really couldn’t understand it. And he used to always separate himself and say, ‘I’m not Black. I’m Haitian.’ And this was kind of the turning point in our relationship after a few years.”
Brown continued to recall starting up his clothing line inspired by ‘Orange Is The New Black.’ He called it “Vegan Is The New Black,” with black meaning “the new in.” Brown said he had friends of all races and genders rocking the shirt in a promotional photoshoot—including Da’Vinchi.
However, Brown alleged that about an hour after the shoot, he received a call from the actor. Brown said Da’Vinchi allegedly claimed he and his team didn’t want the photos to be released because it wasn’t a good look. Brown, mimicking Da’Vinchi’s alleged call said, “Yeah, we’re just not trying to do the ‘Black’ thing.” He said he was puzzled because it wasn’t about race, but a play on the title of the hit Netflix show.
