The donations were traced back to the emails of police officers and other public officials. Sgt. William Kelly of the Norfolk Police Dept. made an anonymous donation of $25 to Kenosha shooter Kyle Rittenhouse with the following message on September 3, 2020: “God bless. Thank you for your courage. Keep your head up. You’ve done nothing wrong. Every rank and file police officer supports you. Don’t be discouraged by actions of the political class of law enforcement leadership.” Multiple police officers in Wisconsin also made donations to support Rusten Sheskey, the police officer who shot Jacob Blake in the back multiple times.

The officers included two lieutenants from the Green Bay Police Department who made $20 donations under the name “GBPD” as reported by NBC News. Other donations totaled up to $5,000 where officers left their badge numbers instead of their names in the comments.

Other donors included a paramedic from Utah and an engineer from San Francisco. Micheal Crosby’s workplace, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory,  said in a statement that their employee didn’t mean to use his work email when he made the donations.

“This employee was acting on his own and does not speak for Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. The lab understands he did not intend to use his LLNL email.”
