Matthew Ingalls, one of the Cornell 7, is alleging he was “sodomized” y the very same Jane Doe who is accusing him and 6 other men of sexually assaulting and gang raping her.
Jane Doe Files Lawsuit Accusing 7 Male Cornell Students Of Sexual Assault And Gang Rape
As we previously shared, the case has recently gained national attention and public outcry. In the civil lawsuit, a female student at Cornell University named seven male students from the Chi Phi fraternity as defendants. Doe alleged sexual assault, rape, and drugging at a party off-campus, and at the frat house, on October 19, 2024. Doe’s lawsuit also names Cornell and the Chi Phi frat, alleging they failed to protect her.
Following the alleged incident, local police failed to make any arrests. This still remains true. Also, the Tompkins County District Attorney declined to file any charges. The office cited Doe’s prior statements about voluntarily consuming alcohol and drugs with them men. Her remarks fall into New York’s controversial and strict voluntary intoxication laws.
But as the case resurfaced and went viral online, the investigation has since been reopened. And with the help of New York Governor Kathy Hochul, an independent review has been ordered. She also appointed New York Attorney General Letitia James as a special prosecutor. Ithaca Mayor Robert Cantelmo also placed a temporary ban on Greek life events.
Furthermore, Cornell University has expelled Matthew Ingalls and Jonathan Newell. The school also suspended Winston Lee (2 years) and Gillio Lopes (3 semesters). Cornell banned Diego Sarabia (who already graduated) from campus for 3 years. And Cornell issued no-contact orders for Scott Norris and Scott Kretzschmar. They were both found not responsible told to complete educational modules and reflection papers. Cornell has also barred the Chi Phi fraternity chapter from campus.
One Of The ‘Cornell 7’ Accused Of Sexual Assault Alleges Jane Doe ‘Sodomized’ Him And School Failed To Help
As the Cornell 7 fight the case in court and in the public eye, one now alleges they’re the victim. According to documents obtained by ABC News, Matthew Ingalls, a former Chi Phi fraternity brother, made the claims in a February 2025 email to Cornell’s Title IX office.
In the correspondence, Ingalls — who reportedly invited Jane Doe to the frat house before the alleged assaults — accused Cornell of “entrapment” and suggested he’s considering filing his own complaint against Jane Doe. Ingallsalleged he was “sodomized by her while [he] was incapacitated.” Ingalls also accused Cornell of gender discrimination. He alleged the school failed to inform him of his rights under its sexual misconduct procedures. Ingalls and his co-defendants have denied Doe’s claims.
“After all, you received information that I was sodomized by her while I was incapacitated back in November, and you never once thought to alert me of my rights under these procedures as a survivor of this assault? The very fact that I had to bring this to your attention now in February confirms my worst fears: that this process is rolled [sic] with gender discrimination.”
