Chris Brown has seemingly responded to music critics at Pitchfork who scored his new ‘Brown’ album a 1.3 and called it a “piece of sh*t.” On Friday (May 8), Breezy dropped his 12th studio album. The project boasts 27 songs and features Bryson Tiller, GloRilla, Sexyy Red, Vybz Kartel, NBA YoungBoy, Lucky Daye, Tank, Leon Thomas, and Fridayy.

Two days later, on Sunday (May 10), Chris Brown responded to the scrutiny over his album. While taking to his Instagram Story, he wrote:

“Just wanna say thank you to everyone who listened to this album. Been a lot of mixed reviews and I can take my audience’s criticism and opinions. The last 3 albums have came under the same scrutiny and it eventually grew on people. Thank you for even taking the time out to listen ❤️.”

Chris Brown Seemingly Responds To Pitchfork Calling ‘Brown’ A ‘Piece Of Sh*t’ And Rating It A 1.3

Two days after that, on Tuesday (May 12), the criticism continued to roll in for ‘Brown‘ as Pitchfork shared its own review. Upon publishing its review, the music publication rated Breezy’s new album a 1.3. It also shared a reader score of 1.1.

In the article, the subtitle reads, Chris Brown’s soulless, hit-chasing new album doesn’t justify his return to the public eye.” Later in the review, it reads:

“If I were on the Chris Brown PR payroll, I would suggest he just cop to all of BROWN being AI, because if not, he’s got bigger problems. It’s hard to find anything redeemable about the album, and I tried hard…

This album is a real piece of sh*t. Why even write about it? For years, traditional media has been tiptoeing around the popularity of Chris Brown, and in reality, that benefits nobody but him. The lack of critical engagement with his music has allowed him to contextualize his own redemption with statistics and sob stories…”

While promoting the review on its X account, Pitchfork first wrote, “This album is a real piece of sh*t.” In a second post promoting the article, Pitchfork wrote, “Soulless, hit-chasing music with nothing going for it.”

Nearly 9 hours later, Chris Brown took to his Instagram Story with a PSA. He said he didn’t care about what any of these critics have to say about his new album. He’s going to continue promoting it, preparing for his joint tour with Usher, plus other big projects he’s secretly working on.

“Team Breezy, I know people want me to get on here, and you know, say some sad sh*t—but f**k that! We kicking they a** goddamn it. We ain’t letting up. I’mma keep my foot on they neck. And we ain’t stopping. You hear me? We doing this motherf**king tour, more sh*t to come—I’m not gonna tell you what’s more to come, but it’s coming at the end of the day. I don’t give a f**k what these n***as is talking about. I know exactly who my fans is and I know exactly who hearing this album. If you not my fan, I don’t want you to listen to my sh*t. Go motherf**king listen to Zara Larsson or somebody. F**k…”

For those not knowing, Chris Brown’s shot at Zara Larsson references a dig she took at him months ago. In February, she said she doesn’t listen to Breezy because “he’s an abuser.” Cosmopolitan asked her which artist we would never find on her playlist and she named Chris.
