In an exclusive interview with Far Out, the 45-year-old musician shared his love of old pop music and offered his thoughts on the current genre while sharing what he thinks it is lacking. “We are adults. There should be a time and a place for adult content,” Green started off. “As adults and artists, we should at least attempt to be each other’s accountability partners in some regard,” he said. “The stereotypes that are celebrated and perpetuated, ultimately make the perception a reality. It is disenfranchising and it has caused a great deal of problems.”

He went on to explain, “You have the ‘Heads of State,’ like Nicki Minaj or someone who is up there in accolade: success, visibility, a platform to influence. Nicki could be effective in so many other constructive ways, but it feels desperate.” Green then went on to criticize both Cardi and Megan who recently dropped their new hit, “WAP.” “Attention is also a drug and competition is around… Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, they are all more or less doing similar salacious gesturing to kinda get into position. I get it, the independent woman and being in control, the divine femininity and sexual expression. I get it all but it comes at what cost?”

As many are aware, Cardi B’s new track “WAP,” an acronym for ‘Wet-Ass P*ssy — featuring Megan — has caused major controversy. The song even had politicians react to it but despite the critics, it’s already a big success as the track racked up millions of plays on all major streaming platforms and went No. 1 on Spotify and Apple Music.
