Kamala Harris Names Tupac The ‘Best Rapper Alive’

During an interview with CNN’s Angela Rye at the NAACP’s virtual convention on Friday, Democratic vice-presidential candidate Kamala Harris revealed her favorite rapper.

During the event, Harris was asked who she believed was the “best rapper alive.”  She quickly responded, “2Pac.” Rye, who moderated the convention, quickly corrected the California senator, reminding her that Pac has been dead for over 20 years. “He’s not alive! You said, ‘He lives on…,’ Rye responded. 

“I keep doing that,” Harris said while laughing with the commentator. “Listen, West Coast girls think 2Pac lives on. I’m with you,” Rye added. “So 2Pac, keep going.”

While trying to name a rapper who is alive, Harris said, “There’s so many. There’s some I would not mention right now because they should stay in their lane … Keep going. Keep moving.”

Of course, social media users had a field day with Harris’ comment. While some trolled the senator, others joked about the moment and even created a few memes.

As we previously reported, the Hip hop star was shot multiple times in a car on the night of September 7 1996 after he had gone to a Mike Tyson boxing match at the MGM Grand. No one was ever charged for his murder.

Yara Shahidi To Play Tinkerbell In Disney’s Live-Action ‘Peter Pan’ Pic!

According to Deadline, “Grownish” star Yara Shahidi is set to play Tinkerbell in David Lowery’s Peter Pan and Wendy. That’s right!

Shahidi will be joining Jude Law, who will play Captain Hook, as well as Alexander Molony and Ever Anderson, who will play the title characters. Lowery is signed on to direct the Disney project and also co-wrote the script with Toby Halbrooks. Deadline reports that Jim Whitaker will be producing.

Disney’s latest move to diversify its classic character comes shortly after they set singer Halle Bailey to play The Little Mermaid. This upcoming Tinkerbell project featuring Shahidi, 20, would mark the first time a person of color has filled the role that has traditionally featured a white actress. Sources tell the news site that the release is expected to be theatrical and not go the streaming route on Disney +.

In recent years, Disney has switched things up with their original films, allowing any actor to play a role that was originally limited to Caucasian talent. Deadline notes that “With Tinkerbell, the studio and Lowery wanted to do the same from the get-go and quickly pursued Shahidi, whose star has been on the rise for some time.”

Following the good news, fans quickly took to social media to congratulate the star. “Blackish” and “Grownish” creator and actor Kenya Barris wrote on Instagram:

“BOOOOOM!!!! THIS IS HUGE!!!! And Pitch Perfect casting for the little sprite I’ve seen flying around set all these years!!! Sooo proud and happy for my FAMILY!!! #grownish”

’Girlfriends’ Star Reggie Hayes Reveals He’s Battling Congestive Heart Failure And Is Struggling To Find Work>

While speaking with Chicago Tribune’s Nina Metz, “Girlfriends” star Reggie Hayes spoke about the classic sitcom that recently started streaming on Netflix as well as many other things including his health and acting career.

The actor who gained fame for his role as William Jerrowme, reveals that his life has been pretty rough, 20 years after the hit show premiered. On Friday, the Chicago native was hospitalized for congestive heart failure in Los Angeles. Hayes explained to Metz, “We’re still not sure what’s going on, I gotta take more tests. But I have congestive heart failure and it was difficult to breathe. Here in L.A., the sky has been orange with smoke (because of wildfires) and it was just really terrible. So I was in the hospital overnight, they were having trouble getting my blood pressure back down. Seems like the more they look, the more problems they find.” However, Hayes noted, that “the good thing is, I don’t have the coronavirus.”

Aside from his health, he also talked about his life after “Girlfriends,” which also stars Tracee Ellis Ross, Golden Brooks, Jill Marie Jones, and Persia White. Hayes, who won the NAACP Image Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series three times said he has struggled to find substantive work on, and off, screen. “It’s not my most proud time,” Hayes reflected, adding he hasn’t gotten many opportunities.

“I had starred on this long-running show but I wasn’t Matt LeBlanc or one of the other kids from ‘Friends’ who had doors opening for them after their show ended. Pretty much, I was just another guy.”

Due to not finding work, he said he sold his house that he bought while he was on the show, and downsized for a bit, and then ended up living in his sister’s garage for six years. He said from there, he tried to work many jobs but due to his fame, it was a bit of a challenge.

“I tried being a bouncer for a while, and everyone in the club wanted their picture taken with me,” Hayes shared. “I’m 6-feet-2 but everybody knows I’m like a mouse; once you know me, you know I’m a pushover. So that didn’t work out. I also tried being a furniture mover, but I was in my 40s so that only lasted a couple of days. My back never would have survived it.”

As the NY Daily News notes, the 51-year-old now lives with “nice roommates” in the Valley and is starting to work a little more. He’s hoping that the Netflix deal may give his career a boost that is very needed.

Garcelle Beauvais Says Former Co-Star Jamie Foxx Is “Hung Like A Horse”: “What would I do with all of that?!”

During a recent episode of Garcelle Beauvais’ podcast, “Going to Bed with Garcelle,” the actress and “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star chopped it up with Jamie Foxx about their longtime friendship. While looking back on working with each other on “The Jamie Foxx Show,” the two revealed why they never became a couple in real life.

Foxx and Beauvais had a lot of chemistry on camera as they played each other’s love interests. However, they were actually into one another off-camera but agreed not to date until the show ended. But, Beauvais said by then, she was already in a committed relationship with another man. “I seen you with the dude, you introduced me; ‘This is my man,’ and it was all uncomfortable,” he said to Beauvais as she laughed. “By the way, you never really give any guy that I’m with any real attention,” Beauvais responded. Foxx agreed then jokingly added, “Ever. I hate them all. I think me and you should have been together. So every time I see them, I’m like, ‘Damn. I f—ed up.’ So every dude, I give them a really s—y look.”

As they joked on, Beauvais went on to reveal a very intimate secret about Foxx, which she claims is one of the reasons why they didn’t take their friendship to the next level. While speaking with Foxx, Garcelle said: ”Kandi Burruss was on the podcast and she goes ‘you know I don’t get it. Why aren’t you and Jamie together?’ and said, ‘you know we have a really great relationship now.’ Then I said, ‘he’s also hung like a horse. What would I do with all of that?!’”

Aside from the jokes, the two also spoke about a possible “Jamie Foxx Show“ reunion.

“People are chomping at the bit for us to get back and do something,” said Foxx. “So if there’s a way for us to do something — and not just no cameo — but a way to come together … and be a real thing. And I don’t mean way down [the line], I mean soon, we could do something that would be dope,” Essence Magazine quotes.

Stevie Wonder On Breonna Taylor Case: “You Say You Believe That ‘All Lives Matter,” I Say I Don’t Believe The F*ck You Do”

Just hours before the grand jury failed to indict three officers on any charges directly related to Breonna Taylor’s death, legendary singer Stevie Wonder uploaded a seven-minute video statement, paying tribute to the Black EMT who was killed by police in her own home in March. Titled “The Universe Is Watching Us,” Wonder runs through a list of concerns, from the active efforts of the administration to delegitimize mail-in voting, agitators co-opting protest moments, and the system’s devaluation of Black life, MIC reports.

“Truth: Mail-in voting is, and has always been, safe. The current president uses the system. Truth: Black and brown people want safety just like everybody else. Truth: You better believe people have come to our communities, co-opted our cause, incited violence. The community knows it, even if you don’t and won’t report it. Truth: No amount of money has ever brought a life back. Ask yourself: Why so long for Breonna Taylor?”

Wonder also took an aim at “All Lives Matter” detractors of the protest movement: “You say you’re sick and tired of us protesting. I say, not tired enough to make a change. You say just you hold on. I say no way, ‘cause we can’t put it in the hands of fate,” Wonder says. “You say you believe that ‘all lives matter.’ I say I don’t believe the fuck you do.” Wonder then becomes visibly choked up by the end of the video statement, honoring two prominent figures: Ruth Bader Ginsburg and John Lewis while encouraging viewers to vote in November.

Stevie Wonder is just one of many celebrities who have used their platforms to bring attention to Breonna Taylor’s case as well as other major issues including police brutality, racism, and social injustice.
