23-year-old Patrick McCaughey of Ridgefield was arrested Tuesday in New York on charges of assault, resisting officers, violent entry, and entering a restricted building. According to the arrest report, McCaughey used a riot shield to attack several police officers and pinned down Officer Daniel Hodges, the cop who cried in pain as rioters were crushing him in a viral video. While he pinned down Hodges, another rioter assaulted the officer and grabbed his gas mask.

Days after the attack, a witness revealed McCaughey’s identity after the FBI released his photos to the public.
