Three new Democratic senators were sworn in by Vice President Kamala Harris after the inauguration, leading Democrats to officially take over Congress.

Jon Ossoff, Raphael Warnock, and Harris’ replacement, Alex Padilla, was sworn in at the Senate chamber hours after the inauguration. As reported by the New York Post, the balance of power within the Senate is now 50-50, and Harris’ win as VP gives Democrats the majority. Chuck Schumer has replaced Mitch McConnell as Senate Majority Leader and he says he plans to do things differently in reference to McConnell’s prior leadership.
“Today I feel the full weight of that responsibility; a sense of reverence — of awe — at the trust placed in me. As the majority in the Senate changes hands, the Senate will do business differently. As the majority in the Senate changes hands, the Senate will do business differently.”

McConnell said he is looking forward to working with Biden so both sides can agree and disagree respectfully on what’s best for the United States.
