A California woman says she was allegedly paid $120,000 to serve as a surrogate for a Chinese video game billionaire after allegedly not being told who the intended father was. According to Dexerto, the woman, who identified herself only as Judy to protect her privacy, responded to an advertisement offering $120,000 for a surrogate pregnancy. She said the opportunity would allow her to provide a home for herself and her 7-year-old son.
Judy said she initially had second thoughts after the surrogacy agency, Patriot Conceptions, informed her that the intended parent was a single man who reportedly already hired more than two dozen surrogates to expand his family.
Documents Allegedly Identified Intended Father as Xu Bo
According to the report, documents later identified the intended father as Xu Bo, founder of Guangzhou Douyi Network, a Chinese company known for developing mobile video games.
Bo has publicly stated that he has fathered more than 100 children. Judy said she repeatedly asked the agency to identify the intended parent before the pregnancy but claimed her questions went unanswered.
Woman Says Agency Should Have Been More Transparent
Judy said she believes the agency should have been upfront about the identity of the intended father before matching her with the surrogacy arrangement. “The agency should’ve been very transparent from before getting matched … about who it is that you’re having a baby for and what the family is,” she said.
The report has renewed discussions surrounding transparency in the surrogacy industry, particularly regarding how much information agencies should disclose to surrogates before agreements are finalized.
Patriot Conceptions has not publicly responded to Judy’s allegations as of this writing.
