On Wednesday (Sept. 23), Berks County District Attorney’s office announced that Jaspreet Chahal, a California man who killed a Pennsylvania couple driving to their wedding, was sentenced to 11.5 to 23 months in jail, followed by two years probation

Prior to his sentencing, Chahal pled guilty to two counts of homicide by vehicle, recklessly endangering another person, and multiple traffic summaries after crashing his 18-wheeler into the car of Kathryn Schurtz, 35, and Joseph Kearney, 42, causing a fiery crash.

The incident occurred in 2018, and caused the couple — who were on there way to Pittsburgh, PA for their wedding — to collide with four other big rigs on Interstate 78. After the couple’s vehicle and another tractor trailer caught fire, other passengers were reportedly injured and forced officials to close the highway for more than four hours. State Trooper David Beohm previously stated that “the victims had no chance at all to get out of there.”
