California Becomes First State To Report 2 Million COVID-19 Cases

California is currently being viewed as the epicenter of the coronavirus as it becomes the first state to report 2 million COVID-19 cases. This report follows the CDC’s comments earlier this week, noting that 2020 will go down as the deadliest year in U.S. history, with the total number of deaths expected to surpass 3 million for the first time.

Subsequently, hospitals statewide are running out of resources, ICU beds and more, and with the holiday season upon us, coupled with determined travelers, another surge is surely expected. Currently, the Johns Hoskins University dashboard reports 2,002,494 confirmed cases, with 23,558 deaths in the state.

Speaking with the Los Angeles Times, Department of Health Services director Dr. Christina Ghaly says pandemic numbers are particularly troubling in Los Angeles County and the situation “could easily become catastrophic” next month. Ghaly adds, “It is very important that people follow the guidance that is being issued virtually everywhere you look and listen.”
