USC’s Bronny James has been granted medical clearance to play in the NBA by the league’s Fitness to Play Panel, according to a new report by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Jonathan Givony.

As we previously reported, the 19-year-old son of basketball legend LeBron James had to be rushed to the hospital after going into cardiac arrest, which was later revealed that the cause of it was a congenital heart defect. A congenital heart defect is a condition that is present at birth and affects the structure or function of the heart. In Bronny’s case, the defect was significant but treatable.

When the news first broke The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported that a rep made a statement on the incident that read:

“Yesterday while practicing Bronny James suffered a cardiac arrest. Medical staff was able to treat Bronny and take him to the hospital. He is now in stable condition and no longer in ICU,” the statement began. “We ask for respect and privacy for the James family and we will update media when there is more information.” The spokesperson added, “LeBron and Savannah wish to publicly send their deepest thanks and appreciation to the USC medical and athletic staff for their incredible work and dedication to the safety of their athletes,” the rep said.

LeBron James also spoke out and shared, “I want to thank the countless people sending my family love and prayers,” LeBron James wrote. “We feel you and I’m so grateful. Everyone doing great. We have our family together, safe and healthy, and we feel your love. Will have more to say when we’re ready but I wanted to tell everyone how much your support has meant to all of us!”

He concluded his message with the hashtag “JamesGang,” which is a nickname for his family — his three children and his wife, Savannah James.
