As we previously reported, the 18-year-old son of basketball legend LeBron James had to be rushed to the hospital after going into cardiac arrest, and it’s now been revealed that the cause of it was a congenital heart defect. A congenital heart defect is a condition that is present at birth and affects the structure or function of the heart. In Bronny’s case, the defect was significant but treatable.

When the news first broke The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported that a rep made a statement on the incident that read:

“Yesterday while practicing Bronny James suffered a cardiac arrest. Medical staff was able to treat Bronny and take him to the hospital. He is now in stable condition and no longer in ICU,” the statement began. “We ask for respect and privacy for the James family and we will update media when there is more information.” The spokesperson added, “LeBron and Savannah wish to publicly send their deepest thanks and appreciation to the USC medical and athletic staff for their incredible work and dedication to the safety of their athletes,” the rep said.
