The city agreed to pay $2 million to settle lawsuits filed by Kenneth Walker in federal and state court, one of his attorneys, Steve Romines, said in a statement. He added that Taylor’s death “will haunt Kenny for the rest of his life.”

“He will live with the effects of being put in harm’s way due to a falsified warrant, to being a victim of a hailstorm of gunfire and to suffering the unimaginable and horrific death of Breonna Taylor,” Romines said.

As we previously reported, The killing of Taylor, along with other 2020 killings of George Floyd in Minneapolis and Ahmaud Arbery in Georgia, among others, sparked outrage and led to many protests that peaked in intensity during that summer.

Her killing also shone a spotlight on no-knock raids, a controversial police tactic that can be dangerous for police and civilians. In August, U.S. prosecutors charged four former Louisville police officers for their roles in the raid. The federal charges came five months after a

Kentucky jury acquitted former detective Brett Hankison  of wanton endangerment. Hankison’s stray bullets during the raid hit a neighboring apartment.

As we previously reported, Breonna Taylor’s mom went on the red table talk and spoke about the moment she showed up at the hospital, Tamika Taylor, said there was no record of Breonna ever being taken to the hospital. She returned to the apartment complex, only to find cops “laughing and joking around” as she requested answers for her daughter’s whereabouts. “It wasn’t until about 11:30 a.m., and mind you we had been out there since 1 a.m. I’m pissed, like I’m screaming at him, like, ‘why won’t you tell me where Breonna is? I need to know where Breonna is.”

The cop responded by telling her Breonna, as far as he was aware, was still inside her apartment, which signaled in Tamika’s mind that her daughter was dead. “I…I knew what that meant,” she added. “To leave there, and still not know what happened was insane. The detective gave me a card to call, and I immediately started calling because I couldn’t understand how I was there for over 12 hours and never knew.”
