Black Hotel Clerk Demands Justice After Being Beaten Twice & Called Racial Slurs By White Guests
A black hotel clerk is seeking justice after claiming she was beaten twice and called numerous racial slurs by white guests. The clerk, Chrystal Caldwell, 59, who works at the Mystic Quality Inn on Route 27 in Stonington, Connecticut, says a white couple, in their late 20s/early 30s from New York, attacked her and called her an “old monkey.”
Caldwell, who’s been n employee at the hotel for the past seven years, says the man initially called down to the front desk complaining of no hot water. Caldwell offered to have maintenance come up or move the man and his girlfriend to a new room. However, that only angered him, leading him to call her names and threaten to send his girlfriend downstairs to “kick her ass.” Moments later, Caldwell ended up calling her general manager and executive housekeeper after the man came down to the front desk, continuing to threaten her and swing at her as she tried to assist him.

Despite fighting back, Caldwell took many blows. After being escorted to the employee lounge to wait for police, Caldwell was again attacked while running to get ice for her face, this time by both the man and his girlfriend. Pequot Health Center doctors confirmed she suffered a concussion, severe harm to her right eye, and damage to her back, ribs and wrist. Caldwell’s attorney noted that police failed to arrest the couple before they fled back to their home state of New York.
Caldwell told ‘The Day,’ ““I am almost 60 years old, for him to want to physically fight me is very, very, very, very hard for me. We are people, we deserve to be here, I’m an American citizen, I pay taxes. My people don’t deserve to die, we don’t deserve to die. You want to physically harm us and kill us for what? The color of my skin? I’m not foreign, I’m from here. I’m just darker than they are. And I don’t deserve to be treated any different, it’s not right and it has to stop.”
