The billionaire reportedly bought the large acres of land secretly and bought the biggest amounts in Louisiana, Arkansas, Arizona, and Nebraska. Currently, it is unclear why he has decided to invest in buying farmland and they were acquired by his personal investment entity, Cascade Investments, as reported by the Daily Mail. However, the company is very supportive of sustainable farming.

Back in 2008, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation promoted $305 million in grants that would be used to help promote sustainable agriculture for smallholder farmers in Africa and South Asia. The initiative would also fund the development of super crops that will be resistant to climate change.
