Sheesh! What’s going on in Russia? Some of our presidents and biggest late night talk show hosts are being banned from Russia. Barack Obama, Donald Trump, Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert and more are among a list of “500 Americans” barred from entering the country.

Last Friday (May 19), Russia announced that it was banning “500 Americans” from entering their nation “in a response to the regularly anti-Russian sanctions imposed by the Joe Biden administration.”
Russia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement blocking several prominent figures in the U.S. like: Obama, Trump, former U.S. Ambassador Jon Huntsman, several U.S. senators, and forthcoming chairman of the joint chiefs, Charles Q. Brown Jr.

Plus, a load of American late night TV hosts like: Kimmel, Colbert, and Seth Meyers. Other names included: CNN anchor Erin Burnett, MSNBC hosts Rachel Maddow and Joe Scarborough, and former NBC News anchor Brian Williams.
Also listed is President Joe Biden‘s longtime adviser Anita Dunna, and acting Voice of America chief Yolanda Lopez. There were also names of several lesser-known military, law enforcement, and academics employees, and other staffers from arms suppliers and tech firms.
In their statement, officials said, “The attached ‘list-500’ also includes those in government and law enforcement agencies who are directly involved in the persecution of dissidents in the wake of the so-called Storming the Capitol.”
Russian officials were referring to the January 6, 2021 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol, where several supporters of U.S. President Donald Trump stormed the building, armed and angry, in an attempt to stop Joe Biden from becoming the next U.S. President.

Months following the insurrection, Russian President Vladimir Putin questioned the legitimacy behind the arrests of all of the rioters. He claimed that they all had simply come to Congress “with political demands.”
Putin added, “400 people, over 400 people had criminal charges placed on them… They’re being called domestic terrorists. They’re being accused of other crimes.”

In addition to speaking out about the “storming of the Capitol,” the Foreign Ministry also claimed that several of the names included in their exclusion list were people “involved in the spread of Russophobic attitudes and fakes.”
Elsewhere, it has been reported that previously, Russia has banned actors like Sean Penn, Morgan Freeman, and Ben Stiller from the country.
