The Obamas, Bushes, And Clintons Are teaming Up In An Effort To Aid Afghan Refugees

Former Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama along with former first ladies Hillary Clinton, Laura Bush, and Michelle Obama are teaming up to aid Afghan refugees. They will serve as honorary co-chairs for Welcome.US.

The group has gathered the former presidents as well as a bipartisan group of governors to serve as central point of contact for public and private efforts to help in the massive effort to help Afghan refugees as they establish lives in the U.S. Not only will it connect and coordinate efforts among state and local governments, but also nonprofit organizations, corporations, universities, and others, WGAL reports.

In a new release, the group said they’re aimed at engaging “all Americans to welcome and support refugees, beginning with the individuals and families who fled Afghanistan” following the American withdrawal from the nation in recent weeks. The Biden administration has been tasked with resettling more than 60,000 Afghan refugees in the U.S. over the next several weeks, after the biggest military evacuation in history.

The United States announced Monday that it will send nearly $64 million in humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, a day after the United Nations issued an emergency call for $600 million to prevent famine and a public health crisis.
