Ariana Grande Admits Fans Calling Her A Diva Traumatized & ‘F*cked Her Up A Little Bit’
Speaking with Zane Lowe in her first extensive interview in months, Ariana Grande admits why she stopped doing them to begin with. Explaining, she says she’d have to always defend herself after someone would try to say something for clickbait or twist her words, resulting in fans calling her a “diva.” Ultimately, it left her traumatized and f*cked her “up a little bit,” leaving her to stop accepting interviews.
But, as she sat with Lowe, who brought up the negative connotations that some associate with the word “diva,” he took her side, claiming, it’s “an insult to strong female energy.” Agreeing in absolution, Grande adds, “It means they’ve got an opinion and a drive and artistic integrity. They’ve got something to say.” She goes on to recall her own negative experiences with the word, claiming fans used it to imply she’s high maintenance or bossy whenever she’d defend herself.

She said, “If I have an opinion artistically or if I am directing something or if I have something to say regarding a choice that’s being made with my career, it always was in the past kind of manipulated and turned into this negative thing. I don’t see that with men. When men express their opinions or defend themselves or are directing something and making notes on something, they’re brilliant and they’re geniuses and yeah, what a boss. It’s just so not the same thing with women, which I hope we can work on fixing. It’s not always that way. But it does make you wanna quiet down a little bit, but I’m trying to also say f*ck that. I’m tired of seeing women silenced by it.”
She then says she questions if she should even defend herself anymore, adding, “It kind of f*cks you up a little bit. Of course it’s not an all the time thing. But it is definitely still prominent. But I’m trying to just say, ‘F*ck it,’ and let go of that trauma. Because I do have a lot to say, and I do enjoy talking to people. And I do want to do interviews and share with people, and not be afraid to be myself. And I’m working on becoming that.”
