According to FOX News, the airline said in their statement that the decision was made to show a diverse and inclusive culture within their work environment. It reads, “Clearly we live in a time where it is so important to have a dialogue about this important issue of racism in our society and try to find common ground. American is truly committed to having an inclusive culture that is welcoming to all and a reflection of our country and world.”

The pins were created and designed by American’s Black Professional Network. However, the announcement has received some backlash from staffers who are related to police officers and/or oppose the BLM movement. A flight attendant wrote in an email found by the New York Post that she believed if people can wear BLM pins then she should wear a pin supporting President Trump.

Another flight attendant said she was offended by the airline’s announcement since her husband is a police officer.

“I take offense to this. Serious offense. My husband is a LEO (Law Enforcement Officer), as was my deceased father and as far as I’m concerned ALL LIVES MATTER.”

Some customers also wrote on Twitter that they will not support the airline after receiving news about the new uniform policy.
