In an announcement on Sunday, American Airlines said their flight attendants will be wearing “Black Lives Matter” pins on their uniforms to show solidarity.

According to FOX News, the airline said in their statement that the decision was made to show a diverse and inclusive culture within their work environment. It reads, “Clearly we live in a time where it is so important to have a dialogue about this important issue of racism in our society and try to find common ground. American is truly committed to having an inclusive culture that is welcoming to all and a reflection of our country and world.”
The pins were created and designed by American’s Black Professional Network. However, the announcement has received some backlash from staffers who are related to police officers and/or oppose the BLM movement. A flight attendant wrote in an email found by the New York Post that she believed if people can wear BLM pins then she should wear a pin supporting President Trump.

Another flight attendant said she was offended by the airline’s announcement since her husband is a police officer.
“I take offense to this. Serious offense. My husband is a LEO (Law Enforcement Officer), as was my deceased father and as far as I’m concerned ALL LIVES MATTER.”
Some customers also wrote on Twitter that they will not support the airline after receiving news about the new uniform policy.
@AmericanAir – since your allowing BLM pins, a violent organization, won’t be flying American anytime soon. I would get sick to my stomach if a flight attendant came up to me waring that pin. I’d feel like saying I’ll have my drink served by some other cocktail waitress.

If @AmericanAir is allowing their employees to wear BLM pins, I will not fly with them and I will cancel my account. #Racism

Every employee should sue @AmericanAir for this. Just like Goodyear learned and reversed course for Blue Live Matter, etc…American Airlines better follow

@AmericanAir I will never fly American again due to the rudeness of allowing their employees to throw their political beliefs in my face with BLM pins #BLM

Why does American Air Lines permit employees to wear BLM ? Are you permitting employees who has family members in the Armed Forces or Police to wear a pin that signifies that relationship ??? Maybe it’s time to move business to a neutral or an US air line that permits the above
