According to Variety, the various theatre chains will release the film in more than 740 locations as part of a partnership with Warner Bros. and Legendary. After the world learned the news of Chadwick Boseman’s death,  the theatre chain asked their customers which film was their favorite aside from Black Panther. The top pick was 42 among Boseman’s other classic films such as Marshall and Get On Up.

At the time of the film’s release, it grossed $100 million globally and received critical praise. The Jackie Robinson Foundation called Boseman “a consummate professional” and said he “absorbed every story, every memory, and every photo and film excerpt he could consume to help translate the soul of an American hero.”
