Amazon Gives First look At “Coming 2 America” Movie Ahead Of 2021 Release

Amazon is finally giving fans the first look at the highly anticipated sequel, “Coming 2 America!”

As it was previously reported, it was confirmed last month that “Coming 2 America” would be skipping theaters due to COVID and was picked up by Amazon Studios. According to PEOPLE Magazine, “Coming 2 America finds Murphy’s Prince Akeem Joffer about to become king of Zamunda when he finds out he has a son he never knew about in America (Jermaine Fowler) with a local woman (Leslie Jones). The movie then follows Akeem and his trusted partner Semmi (Arsenio Hall), who go back to America to groom his long lost son as the next crown prince, honoring King Jaffe’s dying wish.

While speaking about the new film, Murphy, 59, said in a statement: “This is the perfect time to return to Zamunda because it’s been a while since we’ve had a great comedy that everybody can enjoy. Zamunda is a very funny place, and the world needs that right now,” NME quotes.

In a statement to Complex he also said, “My favorite part of reuniting with the cast of Coming to America,” Murphy explains, “was making a movie that’s as good as the first one. Getting everybody together, including Arsenio Hall, Shari Headley, John Amos, James Earl Jones, and the rest of my royal family, and making a really great movie.” He added, “I’m most excited about the audience seeing how amazing this movie is. We have incredible new cast members like Wesley Snipes, Tracy Morgan, Leslie Jones, Jermaine Fowler, KiKi Layne, and my own daughter, Bella Murphy, among others, who are all so funny and really brought their A-game. It’s just a great picture and I’m excited to have audiences see it.”

The sequel will launch worldwide on Prime Video on March 5, 2021, in more than 240 countries and territories.
