For months, the internet and the community have been keeping a close eye on the search for the 84-year-old mother of beloved Today show co-host Savannah Guthrie, who was just snatched from her Tucson, Arizona home back in early February. While everyone was holding onto hope for a safe return, newly leaked details about a series of disturbing ransom notes have turned this case completely dark.

According to a heavy report from Air Mail, the investigation officially took a turn toward a homicide inquiry after a terrifying email hit TMZ’s inbox. Traced back to the exact same IP address as the initial ransom demands, this updated message opened up with what sources close to the case describe as a “sputtering and labored apology” for the elderly woman’s “inadvertent death.”

The heartless individual behind this abduction is actually trying to apologize for accidentally killing a vulnerable, 84-year-old grandmother. Sadly, the sheer audacity doesn’t even stop there. After allegedly causing her death, the culprit had the nerve to alter the terms of their extortion.

In an earlier note sent on February 2, the abductor claimed Nancy was “safe but scared” and demanded a whopping $4 million in Bitcoin. But after realizing she didn’t survive, the sender pivoted, implying that they would still return Nancy’s body to her grieving family, but only if they fork over millions of dollars. Trying to monetize a family’s grief and a grandmother’s remains is a level of wickedness that has left everyone completely sick to their stomachs.

Authorities aren’t playing around with these messages, because the writer clearly had inside knowledge of the crime scene. The notes correctly described exactly what Nancy was wearing the night she disappeared and even pointed out a broken floodlight in her backyard that hadn’t been made public. Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has been open about how dangerous this situation was from the jump, especially since Nancy has limited mobility and missed her vital daily medication. Sheriff Nanos didn’t mince words when he warned the public, stating:

“You’ve placed her in great jeopardy without giving her meds that are critical to her. Again, like I’ve said, could be fatal if she doesn’t get those meds.”

Through all of this unimaginable trauma, Savannah Guthrie and her siblings have shown incredible strength. Desperate to bring their mother home, Savannah and her family even released a heartbreaking video plea to the captors, making it clear that they just wanted her back, no matter what.

In the emotional clip, Savannah directly addressed the situation, saying, “We will pay.” As the FBI and local labs continue to dig through mixed DNA evidence and digital trails more than four months later, the wait for true closure continues.

We continue to send our deepest love, strength, and heavy prayers to Savannah and her entire family during this unimaginably dark time.
