In 2019, 31-year-old Megan Montgomery was fatally shot by her estranged husband Jason McIntosh,46, while hanging out with friends at a local oyster bar. Days before her death, McIntosh had a restraining order against him but officers returned the gun despite having this knowledge. State law says anyone with a restraining order in relation to domestic violence should not have access to a gun.

Nine months ago, McIntosh and Montgomery were involved in a domestic incident where the couple was allegedly fighting over a gun when it went off. Investigators claimed that Montgomery was the aggressor but she didn’t press charges against her estranged husband. McIntosh’s colleagues were the responding officers in the case and confiscated his gun as reported by the Daily Mail.
