Airbnb To Offer Free Rentals To NYC Healthcare Workers Fighting Coronavirus
New York is currently the hub of the Coronavirus in the U.S and many healthcare workers are afraid to return home with the risk of exposing their families.
To help those on the frontlines of COVID-19, Airbnb announced On Tuesday that they had partnered with the New York State Nurses Association to offer free rentals to hospital workers and first responders in Long Island and Staten Island.
“Nurses and other front-line health care workers are fighting COVID-19 with everything we’ve got,” said NYSNA executive director, Pat Kane. “Protecting our families sometimes means keeping our distance, and thanks to programs like Frontline stays we’re able to take care of our families as well as our patients.”

Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky made a $2M donation to cover the fees of the rentals. Hosts will still be paid and have the option to open their rentals to healthcare workers during the pandemic. Since the launch, over 200,000 spots have been offered with over 2,000 in New York alone. A new cleaning system has also been put in place where rentals will be left unoccupied for 24 hours to allow for a deep cleaning.
