Affidavit Reveals Moments Leading Up To Halyna Hutchins’ Shooting On Rust Set
A new affidavit is giving more insight as to what happened on the set of the Rust movie shooting, where actor Alec Baldwin accidentally shot two people on set, one fatally.
Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was fatally shot after a live round was left in the gun given to Alec.
In the affidavit, obtained by PEOPLE the sheriff’s detail the events given by the account of cameraman Reid Russell and director Joel Souza
Souza and Russell said that the original camera crew had quit over payment and housing issues, causing delays on set. Souza said before the incident they had taken a lunch break and wasn’t sure if the gun scene had been rechecked by the staff. The set’s armorer Hannah Gutierrez and assistant director Dave Halls, were responsible for checking the weapons.

Halls reportedly handed the gun to Baldwin and said: “cold gun” which means that there are no live rounds. Per People, Alec Baldwin was practicing a cross-draw on a church on set as Souza was standing behind Hutchins and he “heard what sounded like a whip and then a loud pop.”
Souza recalls that Hutchins began “complaining about her stomach and grabbing her midsection” and she “began to stumble backwards and she was assisted to the ground.”
He “explained that he was bleeding from his shoulder and he could see blood on Halyna,” while Russell “remembered Joel having blood on his person and [Hutchins] speaking and saying she couldn’t feel her legs.”
Souza added that Baldin has been very cautious with firearms on set and was careful to make sure no children were around while they worked with them.
