Oh no! Another celebrity couple have called it quits and this one is shocking.  WNBA star Brittney Griner has officially filed for divorce from her wife, Cherelle Griner, after eight years of marriage.

According to new court documents filed in Fulton County, Georgia, the basketball champion stated that their marriage is “irretrievably broken” and shared that the pair has been living separately since July 24.

The legal papers show that Brittney is asking the court for joint legal and physical custody of their 2-year-old son, Bash, along with a fair split of their shared property. While neither side has made a huge public announcement yet, the breakup comes as a huge shock to fans who watched Cherelle fight relentlessly to bring Brittney home when she was wrongfully held in a Russian prison for nearly ten months back in 2022.

For a long time, the couple was seen as the ultimate example of true loyalty and standing by your partner. When Brittney was facing a long prison sentence overseas, she revealed in her book Coming Home that she told Cherelle she could move on, asking her, “How can I ask her to wait?” But Cherelle shut that down immediately, telling her, “What? Stop it. Don’t you ever say that.” Cherelle stepped up on the world stage, pushing government leaders to act and telling reporters, “If I can’t trust you to catch a Saturday call outside of business hours, how can I trust you to actually be negotiating on my wife’s behalf to come home?”

Seeing a relationship that survived an international crisis end up in divorce court is tough for fans to see. While keeping a marriage strong under the spotlight is never easy, people across the internet are sending love to both women and hoping for a smooth path forward as they focus on raising their young son together.
