Conservative commentator Candace Owens is doubling down after French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte Macron file a defamation lawsuit accusing her of claiming the First Lady was born male back in March 2024. To note: Macron has been president of France since 2017. He and Brigitte Macron married in 2007.

On Wednesday (July 23), French President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron filed a defamation lawsuit against Candace Owens. They also named Candace Owens, LLC. and Georgetom, Inc.

The 22-count lawsuit, filed in Delaware Superior Court, seeks an unspecified amount of damages from Owens — whom they claim shared an 8-part series spreading a slew of allegations about Emmanuel Macron and Brigitte Macron. In the series, Owens alleged Brigitte was born a man, stole another person’s identity, and transitioned into a woman.

Per the Macrons’ defamation lawsuit, they asked Owens to retract and that she refused at least three times. Once in December 2024, a second time, and a final time on July 1, 2025. They claimed she continued to spew “outlandish, defamatory, and far-fetched fictions” about the French president and first lady. They claimed that Owens decided to double down on the falsehoods despite their lawyer’s retraction requests. Subsequently, they filed their defamation lawsuit. They claimed:

“Ms. Owens’ campaign of defamation was plainly designed to harass and cause pain to us and our families and to garner attention and notoriety. We gave her every opportunity to back away from these claims, but she refused. It is our earnest hope that this lawsuit will set the record straight and end this campaign of defamation once and for all.”

French President Emmanuel Macron And Wife Brigitte File Defamation Lawsuit After Candace Owens Alleges First Lady Was Born Male

The Macrons’ defamation lawsuit against Candace Owens begins:

“In March 2024, Candace Owens, a right-wing podcaster, told the world she ‘would stake [her] entire professional reputation on the fact that Brigitte Macron [the First Lady of France] is in fact a man.’ Since then, Owens has used this false statement to promote her independent platform, gain notoriety, and make money. Owens disregarded all credible evidence disproving her claim in favor of platforming known conspiracy theorists and proven defamers. And rather than engage with President and Mrs. Macron’s attempts to set the record straight, Owens mocked them and used them as additional fodder for her frenzied fan base.”

The lawsuit adds:

“Owens did not stop there. Retaliating against the Macrons for the ‘audacity’ of sending her a retraction demand, Owens helmed an eight-part podcast series entitled ‘Becoming Brigitte’ (the ‘Series’) and accompanying X posts. Throughout the Series, Owens and her entities, Candace Owens LLC and GeorgeTom, Inc., endorsed, repeated, and published a series of verifiably false and devastating lies about the Macrons, on which this complaint is based. These outlandish, defamatory, and far-fetched fictions included that Mrs. Macron was born a man, stole another person’s identity, and transitioned to become Brigitte; Mrs. Macron and President Macron are blood relatives committing incest; President Macron was chosen to be the President of France as part of the CIA-operated MKUltra program or a similar mind-control program; and Mrs. Macron and President Macron are committing forgery, fraud, and abuses of power to conceal these secrets.”

The lawsuit continues:

“These claims are demonstrably false, and Owens knew they were false when she published them. Yet, she published them anyway. And the reason is clear: it is not the pursuit of truth, but the pursuit of fame. After being fired from The Daily Wire, Owens used these demonstrably false claims to promote her independent podcast, Candace. Owens’ fan base has grown to 6.9 million followers on X and 4.47 million subscribers on YouTube. The most popular podcasts in the world have discussed her ‘investigation’ into the Macrons’ history. She launched a revamped website, CandaceOwens.com, fueled by her desire to make these specific false claims about the Macrons, without adhering to content moderation policies.”

Candace Owens Doubles Down On Claims After French President Emmanuel Macron And Wife Brigitte File Defamation Lawsuit Over Her Alleging First Lady Was Born Male

Upon receiving French President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte’s defamation lawsuit, Candace Owens continued to double down on her claims alleging Brigitte was born male. On Wednesday afternoon, Owens went live on YouTube and called the move a public relations strategy. She ultimately refused to back down from her claims. She read through the papers on the show and told her audience:

“This is why you’re here. This is how I feel right now. Me receiving my papers today. If read through this … Brigitte actually and intentionally defames me throughout the filing. It says all these things are untrue, attributes quotations to me that I’ve never said.”
