Two separate freak accidents on two separate coasts have people wondering “Where’s the spaghetti?” One accident on a California highway left thousands of tomatoes smooshed across an interstate; while miles away in Tennessee, another accident left tons of Alfredo sauce splattered across another highway.

In the California tomato incident, a delivery truck spilled thousands of pounds of the red fruit/veggie across Interstate 80 in Vacaville, around 5 a.m. on Monday (Aug. 29).

California Highway Patrol Officer Jason Tyhurst says a truck collided with another vehicle and then hit a center divider, causing the tomatoes to spill all over the eastbound lanes.

Tyhurst told BuzzFeed, “The cars driving eastbound came upon a sea of tomatoes They started to get stuck, and it caused a chain event.”

It is reported that four vehicles had crashed on the eastbound side of Interstate 80, plus another three cars that crashed in the westbound lanes.

Unfortunately, in this crash, there were some injuries. At least three people were sent to the hospital. The first was the truck driver, who had minor injuries. The other two people were from a secondary vehicle, one of them had complained of pain and the other complained of a broken leg.

Following the crash, drivers in the area were advised to avoid the scene as members of the California Department of Transportation cleaned up the sticky mess. After about six hours later, the eastbound lanes were fully reopened.

In the Tennessee Alfredo sauce incident, drivers on Interstate 55 in Memphis got a whiff of a delightful smell, but at the cost of a delayed trip.

On Tuesday (Aug. 23), an 18-wheeler carrying the delicious white sauce crashed and spilled its creamy contents all over the Interstate sometime before 4:30 p.m.

When Memphis Police arrived at the scene around 4:30 p.m., they discovered that the tractor trailer involved in the accident had struck a wall, causing it to spill all of its contents on the northbound lanes of Interstate 55.

Police say the truck was transporting tons of jars of Alfredo sauce and upon crashing, most of the jars fell out and broke into thousands of pieces — leaving thousands of shards of glass thrown across the highway. Fortunately in this incident, unlike the California tomato crash, there were no injuries in this accident.

One news team that had arrived to scene was FOX13. Its reporter Kate Bieri shared footage and photos from the accident and updated folks over on Twitter.

She also released a statement with Newsweek and said, “When we arrived just after 5 p.m. it did smell like Olive Garden, the smell of alfredo sauce was really thick in the air.  thought it smelled great, a very pleasant aroma. But it took about an hour of sitting in the hot Memphis sun for all that alfredo sauce to smell not that great.”

In addition to California tomato crash and the Tennessee Alfredo sauce crash, there was a third freak accident in Kentucky. It was reported that a semi-truck carrying thousands of Bud Light beer bottles had overturned, causing tons of cases of the beer to spill out onto another highway.
