7-Year-Old Boy Rescues Baby Sister From Burning Home: ‘I Didn’t Want Her To Die’
Eli Davidson, a 7-year-old boy from New Tazewell, Tennessee, is being praised a hero by his family and community after rescuing his baby sister from their burning home earlier this month. The incident occurred on December 8 as the Davidson family were on their way to bed. In the night, matriarch Nicole Davidson awoke to the smell of smoke, realizing her home was becoming engulfed in flames.
As Nicole and husband Chris made their way out the home with their 2-year-old son Elijah and Eli, who the couple had fostered for almost a year; they unfortunately weren’t able to reach their 22-month-old daughter Erin, who was trapped in her room, surrounded by growing flames. Mr. Davidson says, “The smoke and fire was so thick there was no way I could get to her. We went outside to get to her from the window, but there was nothing for me to stand on to reach up there. So I picked up Eli, who went through the window and was able to grab her from her crib.”

Eli says, “I thought I couldn’t do it, but then I said, ‘I got her, dad.’ I was scared, but I didn’t want my sister to die.” After successfully rescuing his sister, the home was completely burnt down; later confirmed to be caused by an electrical fire. Mr. Davidson added, “We lost everything that we have ever had. Our entire lives were in that home. Our three cars were also damaged in the fire. It’s devastating. We have nothing…You have never been as humble as you are when you don’t even have your own underwear to wear.” However, he adds, “We couldn’t be more proud of Eli. He did something a grown man wouldn’t do. “
